The White House national security adviser has long been known for his hawkish views, which have sometimes appeared in President Donald Trump's own policies.
President Donald Trump has claimed to be"more hawkish than anybody," but he may have met his match in his national security adviser John Bolton, whom a new report argues has set out to reshape U.S. policy in his own image.
Though Bolton"understands he's not the ultimate decision-maker," according to one senior official, he was also said to"want to be everywhere, all the time," making his presence felt throughout the White House and in his own translations of Trump's positions. Despite the president's efforts, neither of these goals have been realized, with U.S. presence in Syria set to be anchored by a"peacekeeping force" and the recent U.S.-North Korea summit ending without a deal.

Bolton supported Bush during the disputed 2000 election and went on to forge a relationship with then–Vice President Dick Cheney, who helped him secure a State Department position, “The Washington Post” reported.
