'Don't panic' about Strep A says Lancs health boss as he lists key warning signs parents should look for

Lancashire's leading health boss has urged parents not panic amid the nationwide rise in deaths linked to Strep A, and explained the warning signs to watch out for.

"If we spot this early, the good news is streptococcal A can be fully and adequately treated. There's a lot of panic out there - people are thinking this is a new bug and 'how do we deal with this?'. Actually, it's a very well known bacterium that can be treated fully and adequately." He said: "We are advising parents to watch out for the signs of it, we are advising schools and nurseries to watch out for it so there is an option that disruption to education and normal life can be kept to a minimum.

The health director estimates it will be another couple of years until those patterns return to normal. In the meantime, Covid cases have risen again and the NHS and the region's hospitals remains under extreme pressure. He is urging anyone eligible to accpet their flu and covid vaccines as well as reiterated common sense advice such as protecting themselves from the cold.
