About 20 climate protesters briefly blocked a road near the venue where a United Nations summit on climate change was taking place COP25
MADRID - The world must choose hope over surrender in the fight against climate change, U.N. secretary-general Antonio Guterres said on Monday, warning a summit in Madrid that governments risked sleepwalking past a point of no return.
“One is the path of surrender, where we have sleepwalked past the point of no return,” he said. “The other option is the path of hope. A path of resolve, of sustainable solutions.” “It would take a radical transformation, but it starts on the streets, it starts here,” the 22-year-old said. While a fast-growing youth-led climate activist movement is pressuring leaders to act, U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to begin withdrawing from the accord last month has cast a shadow over the latest round of negotiations.
