Don Bolles loses fight for life: Reporter's 1976 obituary
Bolles suffered extensive injuries when what police say was a remote-control bomb blasted his auto as he was backing out of a parking space at the Hotel Clarendon, 401 W. Clarendon.
The Emprise reference was to the Emprise Corp., which has been reorganized as Ramcorp Metal Inc., and which owns with the Funk family of Phoenix all of the dog racing tracks in Arizona and the Prescott Downs horse racing track. Bolles began investigating Emprise operations in Arizona in the 1960s.Doctors at St. Joseph's Hospital were forced to amputate Bolles' right leg above the knee shortly after the blast.
Dozer said Bolles was"quite conscious" on the two days following the blast. The reporter was able to nod his head in response to questions from police and to identity a photograph of Adamson as being that of the man he had intended to meet at the Hotel Clarendon. Though Bolles had been in critical or grave condition since the bombing attack, Dozer said fluctuations in his condition alternatively gave doctors reason for hope and for pessimism.Read more about Don BollesBolles' condition for about 12 to 20 hours before his death was characterized by"mild deterioration" leading to the sudden lung complications that ended his life, Dozer said.
"I think all this has really eased the burden on Rosalie and the children because they knew that everything possible was being done," Shover said."You just couldn't say enough about the way she's gone through this," he said.The Arizona Republic and The Phoenix Gazette, has said that"no stone will be left unturned" in the effort to find and punish those responsible for Bolles' death.
"A $25,000 reward has been offered by The Arizona Republic and The Phoenix Gazette for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of reporter Don Bolles. Contributions by others have raised the reward fund to $32,145.
