DOH: 3 flu-related deaths reported in WA thus far

For the first time in roughly two years, multiple flu-related deaths are being reported in the state, the Washington State Department of Health reported Wednesday.

According to a report from the state, three people, all age 65 and older, died from influenza after testing positive.Health officials said flu activity was historically low last season, likely due to increased COVID-19 precautions being practiced.

As the pandemic continues, Tao Sheng Kwan-Gett, MD, MPH, Chief Science Officer, said, “Hospitalizations across the state remain high due to omicron, and other respiratory viruses like influenza could overload them even more.”
