Do the donut, do the time: Abbott talks new ‘street takeover’ penalties, border security
"Street racing and street takeovers are not a victimless crime,” Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said.Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn, Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw and Fort Worth police Chief Neil NoakesNoakes said the bills to combat street takeovers and racing were an “outstanding example of elected leaders and law enforcement professionals coming together in the spirit of cooperation and determination to take a stand against dangerous criminal activity.
Jesse Francis, who lives in east Fort Worth, said he and others in his neighborhood are part of a group that works with law enforcement to push back against street takeovers. The group, which also advocates against discharging fireworks and firearms in the neighborhood, meets monthly, Francis said.He said it was encouraging to see people in the neighborhood with different political backgrounds and beliefs come together for a common goal.
Speaking about the federal lawsuit seeking to remove buoys in the Rio Grande, Abbott said he expected a thank you note from President Joe Biden.
