Cara Care, a digital therapeutics startup focused on gastrointestinal health issues, has raised $7 million in a Series A Extension round, as the Berlin, Germany-based company looks to scale up its app for irritable bowel syndrome and move into the U.S. and other European markets.
Dr. Schär AG, a family-owned international food and nutrition company that manufactures products for people with celiac and chronic kidney disease, led the round alongside existing investors Sabadell Asabys and Johnson & Johnson. Cara Care has raised $16 million to date. The company also appointed Jim Mapes as CEO. Mapes has served in executive roles at a range of U.S.-based healthcare companies, including Centauri Health Solutions, UnitedHealth Group’s Optum division and health insurer Anthem. Jesaja Brinkmann, 30, and Andre Sommer, 34, who co-founded the company in 2016, will serve as managing directors. Brinkmann is an alumnus of the 2021"The Dr.
When a patient signs up for the Cara Care app, they input their symptoms to get a personalized program to help manage their condition. This includes one-on-one coaching and dietary, mental health and exercise interventions.
