The Diamondbacks are in agreement with free-agent third baseman Evan Longoria on a one-year contract, a deal that gives the club another veteran right-handed bat.
Longoria, 37, is expected to play a part-time role, splitting time with Josh Rojas at third while also getting at-bats at designated hitter.
Longoria told reporters late last season that Arizona was one of three places he would consider playing next season, in large part because he has a home in the Valley. Notably, he has performed well against left-handed pitching, an area of need for the Diamondbacks. He hit .282 with six homers last season against lefties.
