In-person meetings and online surveys will gather feedback
The upcoming meetings planned by DFO are not a formal inquiry, but they do put these issues back on the table.
“The intent of these meetings,” DFO said in its notice to N.L. harvesters, “will be to explore stakeholder concerns with the existing vessel related policies and the extent to which they support owner-operator policy.”Two sessions are set for the N.L. region.The second meeting is set for March 23 at the Albatross Hotel in Gander.
The meetings in Newfoundland will also include discussion on non-core harvesters, an issue that's provoked a long-standing debate andOther engagement sessions across the region are scheduled for March 27 and 28 in Gaspé, QC; March 28 in Saint John, NB and April 4 in Halifax, NS. A spokesperson for DFO national office the department will draft a “What We Heard” report based on the feedback collected through the engagement sessions across the East Coast.
