The developer of a nearly $50 million mixed-use development proposed for downtown Batavia now says the project is off.

Shodeen Group informed Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke and City Administrator Laura Newman in a meeting Dec. 29 that it was exercising its rights under a redevelopment agreement to terminate the project.

Shodeen Group founder and CEO Kent Shodeen and Shodeen President David Patzelt personally came to the mayor’s office to inform the city of their intent to end the project, city officials said. Here’s what to know.Patzelt said Shodeen believed in this “spectacular project to further the revitalization of Batavia’s downtown and provide a lifestyle product that does not currently exist in Batavia.”

Patzelt said Shodeen thanks “the entire city staff, the mayor, the City Council, Plan Commission and Historic Preservation Commission for all of their efforts, vision and continued support in this project.”
