A DORA is a mapped-out district in which patrons 21+ can purchase alcoholic beverages from approved restaurants and carry them outside and within the DORA boundaries. Woodmere introduced a DORA last year at Eton Chagrin Boulevard.
He presented council with a written proposal, which he said he compiled with assistance from Police Lt. Mike Roberts, who serves as director of security at Pinecrest. Council then had the opportunity to ask questions about it.
Clarke said the conversation for a DORA at Pinecrest started about six weeks ago, when members of Village Council approached Mayor Kathy U. Mulcahy, who then approached Adam Fishman, principal at Fairmount Properties, the lead developer of Pinecrest. “We’ve kept it to a very concise area so that it travels from our south district, which is Verizon and REI , to the north district,” he said. “What’s nice is we have venues throughout the entire district that do serve alcohol.”
Signage would be posted to indicate which venues welcome the DORA and where it’s not permitted, Clarke said. “As we administer the program, if we see customers going off to their car with , it’s easy for security to approach them and say, ‘Time out, you can’t do that; you need to dispose of this,’” he said.“We’re also looking at this summer having some musical programs on Fridays and Saturdays, starting at 4 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m.,” he said. “Everything is going to tie up perfectly there , so that we have the customers onsite that we want at that time.
If those steps take place, then the DORA could be on the agenda for council’s June 14 meeting, he said.
