A winter storm that brought snow, cloudy skies and freezing temperatures to the metro area on Wednesday is expected to clear out overnight, with sunny skies in the Denver weather forecast on Thursday.
Into Wednesday night, there was a 50% chance for continued snowfall, mainly before 1 a.m. Thursday, according to the weather service forecast. A winter weather advisory posted for the metro area was set to expire at midnight and the overnight low temperature in Denver will be around 5 degrees, with a wind chill value of -4 degrees.because of adverse weather conditions. A resort official blamed the closure on high winds and extreme wind chill.
Snow-packed roads, with ice and slushy conditions slowed commuters in the metro area and along the Front Range in the morning and the evening. There were a few temporary road closures in the metro area because of accidents, but most roadways remained opened throughout most of the day.
