Passengers in some Canadian airports will go through security without having to remove belts or take their electronics out of carry\u002Don bags.
Now we can rack up another snub for Ottawa. Passengers elsewhere will be able to take a ride on the wild side by getting on a plane without having to remove shoes, belts or jackets. They will even be allowed to keep their electronics, laptops and liquids in their carry-on bags without having to pull them out for inspection.
While it is better than what Canadians had, the new federal program is a pale version of something the Americans have been doing for nearly a decade.doesn’t pick and choose based on occupation. It offers the same kind of benefits that Canada is just beginning to offer, but it’s open to all U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents. The quick boarding service that PreCheck passengers get is available at 200 airports and involves 85 airlines.
Canada’s airport security bureaucracy is clearly more obtrusive and exclusive than what the U.S. offers. That’s no surprise. This is the federal government that thought the useless ArriveCan app would speed up travel. Ever since, fearful governments have acted like every airline passenger is a potential terrorist, imposing rules that seem foolish. How many lives do you think have been saved by taking off our shoes, or by random swabbing for gunpowder? What do they think passengers are going to do with a sealed bottle of water?Article content
