As Republicans have hammered Democratic House leaders for conducting the inquiry behind closed doors, the resolution would authorize the public release of those depositions.
When public hearings start, counsels on each committee staff will be allowed to question witnesses for period s of 45 minutes. When the House Judiciary Committee conducts their impeachment proceedings, Trump’s legal team will be allowed to present their case, submit written requests for additional testimony and other evidence, raise an objection to testimony given and cross-examine witnesses.
The ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, Rep. Doug Collins , will be able to subpoena testimony and evidence, but with the concurrence of the committee’s chairman, Rep. Jerry Nadler . The resolution will give a first glimpse of the breadth of support for carrying forward with Trump’s impeachment. Republicans have been attacking the process, as it has taken place in private in the basement of the Capitol Visitor Center. Only members of three committees conducting the inquiry have been allowed to participate, but that includes Democrats and Republicans.
