Senate Democrats have figured out how to dodge Republicans’ attempt to trap them on the Green New Deal: Vote “present,” then attack GOP lawmakers as anti-science climate deniers
.
“My guess is we’d vote present” as a bloc, said Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware, one of the Senate's most vocal supporters of fighting climate change. “Cars, lawnmowers, commercial airliners — everything must go,” McConnell said of the impacts of the Green New Deal. “All this and more can be ours for the low, low price of a staggering expansion of centralized government."
But anger over climate change erupted on the Senate floor Wednesday as Republicans lined up to bash the Green New Deal, prompting repeated interruptions from Democrats demanding that the GOP offer its own alternative ideas for addressing climate change.
