Lady Deer earn bi-district softball title with 12-0 and 11-0 romps
Before a packed house Thursday night at Doll Forrest Field, Madison Bailey sends a ball foul. The team easily claimed the bi-district title Friday night, following a 11-0 win.HOUSTON - Reigning state champions don’t lose in the bi-district round of the playoffs the following year. It’s not a written rule somewhere, it’s just fact.
Deer Park moves on to play Alvin High School next week for an Area round showdown. The Lady Yellowjackets swept Clear Creek by scores of 16-9 and 14-10. During that eight-run sixth inning, Deer Park collected five hits to go with a mess of North Shore errors, five to be exact. A Bailey RBI single raised the lead to 8-0 and that’s when Morales launched a pitch way over the scoreboard for a 10-0 lead. Erin Perez, Graham and McKnight all batted a second time in the inning.
The team utilized the stolen base very well, moving runners into scoring position, increasing their chances of scoring. In the first inning, a walk and bunt single led to a steal of second and third base. “We work on the kids reading that better and they’ve gotten pretty good at it. It helps to create some runs,” Vidal said.
