Red Wings defeat Puglisevich Southern Shore Breakers 3-1 Saturday night
Deer Lake Red Wings goaltender Billy Clarke makes one of his 34 saves in Deer Lakes 3-1 win over the Puglisevich Southern Shore Breakers in Game 4 of the Herder Memorial Trophy championship final at the Ken Williams Southern Shore Arena in Mobile. The win gives Deer Lake their first win of the series, although they still trail the Breakers 4-1.
“I just felt like I had to make definitely the first couple of saves, get myself back into it and just go from there and battle hard for my team,” said Clarke. Before Game 4, the Red Wings had shown they could hang with the Avalon East Senior Hockey League champion Breakers but hadn’t been able to string together enough winning periods in order to prove it.
They were quick to the puck, they played physical and showed no desire to fold the tent and make the long drive back to Deer Lake. Then came the third. As their home crowd hungered for an equalizer, the Breakers provided them with it just before the midway point of the period.
