As we enter Year Two of the current Ukrainian/Russian War, it is worthwhile to reflect back on lessons learned over the past year, and to look ahead to battles yet to be fought. And on the Ukrainian side we witness an entire nation standing as one: the Ukrainian people and their army united as one mighty entity dedicated to preserving their homeland, their culture, their language, their identity, and to repelling the invader from every inch of Ukrainian soil.
Russian military losses have been even heavier, with tens of thousands of Russian families mourning the deaths of loved ones. The Russian economy is also suffering the bite of western sanctions, the effects of which may fundamentally alter the nature of the Russian trade and commerce for decades to come.
This brings us to the present and future. With the Russian army bogged down in Ukraine, the momentum of the ground is likely to change over the coming months. With patience and time, and the steady inflow of NATO equipment and training, the Ukrainian military has been growing stronger, more lethal, and more mobile, while the Russian army has been getting weaker. At some point over the spring/summer of 2023, the Ukrainian military will go over to the offence.
