A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 7:13 p.m. valid until 8:15 p.m. for Warren County.

Published: Jun. 18, 2024, 7:20 p.m."At 7:12 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Enterprise to near Tionesta to near Marienville, moving northeast at 15 mph," states the weather service. "People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees."

To guarantee your safety in the midst of a thunderstorm, take into account the following recommendations:When venturing outdoors, it's crucial to have a lightning safety plan in place. It's important to remember that lightning can strike even when a storm seems to have passed, so exercise caution. If you find yourself outdoors without access to indoor shelter during a thunderstorm, take these steps to maximize your safety:Steer clear of tall, isolated trees and other prominent objects. In wooded areas, stay close to lower stands of trees.

Do not approach water bodies, wet objects, or metal items. Although water and metal do not attract lightning, they conduct electricity effectively and can pose significant risks. When stopping by the roadside is your only option, position your vehicle as far off the road as possible, ideally beyond guardrails. Keep your headlights on and activate emergency flashers to alert other drivers of your position.
