The festival was also in reset mode after dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic for the past three years. The 2020 festival was canceled because of the pandemic. In 2021, it returned as an abbreviated in-person three-day event at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in the Cedars. Last year, DIFF took place over seven days in October at various Dallas venues.
