City offering money to businesses to help foster more economic development in southern Dallas and other areas.
The program, which would be funded yearly by money from expired tax increment financing, or TIF, districts, is part of a “I think it’s vital,” said Harrison Blair, president of the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce. “To have a funding mechanism to quickly address infrastructure needs or even the last connective pieces of tissue for people to get to a business, like sidewalks, can really make a difference.”
Bentley said the new enticements are meant to “fill gaps identified in our previous incentive” programs.in 2021, a citywide strategy meant to help address disparities in economic opportunities in historically underserved areas of Dallas. Bentley’s office would give a report to the City Council’s economic development committee every quarter, listing each type of approved incentive offer, the amount, the scope of work for each project and other details. She said the approvals would be reviewed by the city manager’s office and city attorney’s office and that the $1 million or less offers would likely go to small real estate developments and small to midsize businesses development projects.
