No date has been set as of Tuesday morning on when the proposal will be publicly discussed by elected officials. The next council transportation and infrastructure committee meeting is scheduled for next Monday and the agenda has not yet been finalized and posted. The state transportation department has led public discussions on how to reconfigure I-345 since at least 2012, saying something needed to be done because it would eventually become too costly to maintain the 1.4-mile highway as is. Built in the 1970s, I-345 runs from I-45 to Woodall Rodgers Freeway and many believe reconfiguring the freeway is a way to reconnect Deep Ellum and southern Dallas to the city’s downtown core.
