Review: 'Daisy Jones & The Six,' streaming on Amazon Prime, focuses on a fictional 1970s rock band that disbanded at the peak of its popularity
One way to digest the fictional rock saga “Daisy Jones & The Six” is as a spoof—not just of ’70s pop-star pretensions or celebrity excess but of the historical documentary as a genre. The acting is affected, the attitudes are arch, and it can’t possibly be intended as anything but parody. Can it? Or is that giving everyone too much credit?
Based directly on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s popular novel of the same name and indirectly on Fleetwood Mac, “Daisy” will find an audience, though its lazy reliance on ’70s counter-cultural clichés and apocryphal stories grows tiresome. Over 10 episodes , the series is a memory tour framed by interviews with the eponymous, superstar rock band that played a sold-out concert at Soldier Field in Chicago in 1977 and never performed together again.
