Daily Briefing: - UK parliament crushes Prime Minister May's Brexit deal again - EU says no more Brexit talks with UK - Italy to defend its interests in China 'Belt and Road' accord

. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte insists Italy will protect vital infrastructure such as telecoms and avoid transferring key know-how as part of the agreement.

The heavy 149-vote defeat for UK PM May’s second attempt to push her Brexit deal through parliament now leads to another parliamentary vote later on Wednesday on whether the UK should leave the European Union on March 29 without a deal. Thursday would then see another vote on a ‘limited’ extension of the leaving day – expected to be to mid-May just before the European parliament elections, though still requiring the unanimous agreement of all 27 EU members at next week’s summit.

"One door has closed but other possibilities have opened up and markets are hopeful that Wednesday’s vote on a no-deal Brexit will suffer a big defeat"Sifting through the reams of investment bank analysis and scenario building overnight, there are myriad permutations and combinations of next steps being discussed – ranging from a variety of Brexit delays to a leadership challenge for May, a snap election, second referendum and even cross-party talks with a third vote in parliament.
