D'Angelo Russell, Lakers Have Mutual Interest In Contract Extension
The Los Angeles Lakers didn't take on much guaranteed long-term money at the trade deadline. That gives the Lakers lots of flexibility with how they approach the future of their roster. One player that pertains to most is D'Angelo Russell.
The Lakers and Russell have mutual interest in a contract extension, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN."The Lakers did not trade a first-round pick for Russell to be a rental,' Wojnarowski said. Russell is eligible to sign a two-year extension with Los Angeles worth up to $67.5 million. It's unlikely the salary will climb quite that high, but adding two years at a fair value is possible. A two-year extension would also align Russell with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, as far as long-term contracts on the Lakers roster. Both James and Davis have player options for the 2024-25 season.
