A cyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle in Redwood City on Monday evening, officials said.

A 22-year-old Redwood City resident driving an Acura sedan had struck a 37-year-old cyclist from South San Francisco as they both traveled north on the road, CHP said, adding that the cause of the crash “is unknown at this time.
The cyclist had “major injuries” and was pronounced dead at the scene, the department said. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office identified him to SFGATE as Lester Legarda. Following the collision, the 22-year-old driver and his passenger were taken to the hospital as a “precautionary measure,” CHP said.
Cañada Road was closed for nearly four hours Monday, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation, Art Montiel, a spokesperson for CHP’s Redwood City office, told SFGATE.
