US and European authorities say they have smashed a huge international cybercrime network that stole $100 million

Computer hard drives, from closed criminal cases, sit on a shelf waiting to be wiped of information at the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center in Linthicum, Maryland, Thursday, August 11, 2011.

The defendants come from six nations and several are awaiting prosecution in Europe. An 11th defendant in a related case was extradited to the US from Bulgaria in 2016 and pleaded guilty last month in federal court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Thursday's case was brought. "It represents a paradigm change in how we prosecute cybercrime," Brady said in an interview with The Associated Press ahead of a news conference in The Hague with representatives of the six countries.
