CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has temporarily suspended all operations over concerns about land erosion.
The railroad along with the National Park Service announced the suspension Friday, the same day it had hoped to resume regular operations with the aid of an “advanced stability monitoring system,” according to a news release.“Ongoing geotechnical soil monitoring in recent weeks identified increasing erosion along the 26-mile scenic and educational railway in Cuyahoga Valley National Park,” the release states.
Operations along the railroad have been limited since October due to erosion related to the Cuyahoga River. Suspended programs include the Cleveland Dinner & Events Train and the National Park Scenic Excursion, the release states, and purchased tickets will be “automatically refunded within 5-7 business days to the original form of payment.”“We are going to do everything we can to allow the train to return to normal operations as soon as possible,” Cuyahoga Valley National Park Superintendent Lisa Petit said in a written statement.
