Reigniting long-running tensions with Trump over reopening the economy, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo slammed the president in a press conference on Wednesday for pressuring schools to reopen in the fall, saying that the federal government doesn’t have authority on the matter and that it is a state decision.“School reopenings are a state decision,” Cuomo insisted. “That is the law and that is the way we’re going to proceed.
Cuomo’s criticism comes at a time when Trump has been ramping up his public pressure on state governors and educators to reopen schools: On Tuesday, the president that they “must open” by August or September, despite the resurgence of coronavirus cases across the country.
