Crosby Independent School District’s school board members approved a four-day week for the 2023-2024 school year in a 4-3 vote Monday night.
The superintendent said the idea for a shorter school week is due to the national teacher shortage, also claiming that it is getting worse for the growing district.
The superintendent said the four-day week would help them attract and retain teachers. He noted that salaries would stay the same. There were some intense moments when administrators, teachers, and parents in Crosby ISD met on Feb. 15 to discuss the possibility of reducing their school week. “Are we really considering the impact it’s going to have on our kids? With my kid being home one day extra a week, we’re not going to be there,” said parent Toni Handley.
