The price tag on that bid was $1.1 billion.
Hamilton, the host of the first-ever Commonwealth Games in 1930, had been considered a shoo-in to host the centennial 2030 Games. The bid fell apart due to lack of support from the provincial government. The timing of the announcement, just months before a decision is needed, is troubling for Peter McCaffrey, president of the Alberta Institute, a libertarian-leaning think tank.. McCaffrey was previously involved with No Calgary, a group that opposed the Calgary 2026 Olympic bid.Article content
