The Canada Revenue Agency has fired or is investigating 10 employees who claimed CERB benefits despite being employed by the tax agency.

One month later, CRA sent a written update to the committee informing MPs that it suspected 10 of its roughly 42,000 employees had been caught with their hand in the CERB honey pot.

“Any CRA employees who claimed the CERB would be required to repay the amounts received and be subject to our normal collection methods,” Branch said in an email.Article content “It was discovered that some of our employees had availed themselves … of CERB,” ESDC’s Mary Crescenzi told MPs on the House public accounts committee. “Those individuals that did break the trust of the employer-employee relationship … have been terminated.”

In the document provided to the committee earlier this week, CRA also revealed that it had already spent $331 million as of March 2022 on post-payment verifications for the 12 pandemic aid programs put in place by the government.
