Cooper Rush got his ‘feet wet’ last season. Now, he’s the Cowboys’ starting QB
”Yeah, that’s the job of the backup,” Rush said late Sunday evening. “You’ve got to go in. You’ve got to make things click as if 4 was in there. We’ll draw on that experience last year, big time. I got my feet wet last year and getting in there tonight. We’ll regroup as a team and offense and be all right.”
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said Monday that any quarterback added will work closely with position coach Doug Nussmeier to become familiar with the playbook and its concepts. But the team is not about to sacrifice Rush’s reps before a regular-season start to assist in that acclimation. Prescott will be placed on injured reserve as early as Tuesday. Rush and Will Grier, both on the practice squad, are the Cowboys’ only healthy quarterbacks. How much belief and comfort the team has in Grier as its new No. 2 option ultimately may influence how aggressively the club fortifies its depth.
