Family-owned Covington Casket is one of the few casket manufacturers in the nation
is one of the few casket manufacturers in the nation, yet business is still booming.“My dad actually came here in 1971. He moved to Andalusia with Lance Crackers,” said owner Alan Williamson.Fast forward to 2024, Alan Williamson, his son, took over to continue the legacy of making custom caskets, an industry that is growing slim.
“People don’t realize a lot of caskets are being imported now, so just to be made in Alabama and being a family-owned business is something we are extremely proud of,” Williamson said. Now, there at least 30, Covington Casket being one of them. The Andalusia business serves licensed funeral homes in five states, and they aren’t just getting by, they are thriving.
“Customization, I would say 75 percent of our caskets are custom made with the colors the family wants, the interiors the families want, and most of the other manufacturers are cookie cutter caskets, I guess you could say,” said Williamson.Williamson’s son already works for the company and plans to take over for another 100 successful years.
