Ottawa Public Health took to Twitter Saturday to mark the third anniversary of the official pandemic declaration by the World Health Organization.
In its latest update, OPH said COVID-19 had claimed the lives of 1,025 people in Ottawa. There have been 90,356 cases of the disease in Ottawa.
“Today we reflect upon the many people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in so many ways. It’s also a day to reflect on the countless times this community came together over the past 3 years.” “We owe our thanks to every person involved in the ongoing pandemic response. Same for each member of this community who has done their part to help keep each other safe.”“Be sure to check in on each other today. Send a text. Make a call. Go visit someone.”Meanwhile, Canada;s chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam noted in a communiqué of her own that the virus has reached a relatively steady state in this country.
Tam says population immunity is high due to an overall high vaccine uptake combined with the immunity people got from infection.She says people who are older or immunocompromised continue to be disproportionately affected by the virus.She noted that over the past three years, there have been millions of COVID-19 cases in Canada and more than 51,000 people have died.This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.
