The US Supreme Court has denied an emergency request from 3 Texas state legislators seeking to quash subpoenas from the Justice Department and voting rights groups related to a challenge to state legislative maps.

- The US Supreme Court on May 31 denied an emergency request from three Texas state legislators seeking to quash subpoenas from the Justice Department and voting rights groups related to a challenge to state legislative maps.

The provision of law prohibits states from adopting voting rules that result in the"denial or abridgement" of the right to vote on account of"race or color." The challengers served subpoenas to the legislators -- Ryan Guillen, Brooks Landgraf and John Lujan -- representing three of the Texas House districts that are under challenge.
