The once gold-colored ballroom will now feature dark walls and blue carpeting, the venue announced on social media.
But for some brides and grooms who had booked the space months ago, the news was less than exciting
The brides and grooms asked NJ Advance Media to withhold their names because they “feared retribution” from the venue and its staff. A rendition of the decor changes expected at The Madison Hotel in the coming weeks. Brides and grooms said they were surprised that the venue was moving away from the gold and neutral color scheme they saw when they signed their contracts.
A review of some of the couples’ contracts show some do not address whether the venue can redecorate without notification or under what circumstances it can. But starting sometime last spring, Madison added a line in the contract that said it could “renovate or redecorate, change color, style, decor, linen, chairs, carpet, wall decorations, at any time, but not to hinder your event at all.
Kline did not address her concerns specifically, but said the design process “is something that happens at the ownership level” and that inflation, budget concerns and supply chain issues are all part of the renovation decisions. He would not comment on why the couples weren’t told about the renovations earlier. “I’m sure it’s scary. Your wedding is a very exciting thing. We want everyone to be happy. We want it to be perfect,” he said.
