Supervisor calls allegation a 'tired, old blame game that does nothing to address the problem'
Civic leaders in El Cajon are claiming the county is placing an unfair burden on their city by providing a large number of homeless people from other areas with rooms in their local hotels.
Mitchell said the trend was first detected when police and paramedics noticed a recent increase in service calls to hotels. According to a statement issued by the county Wednesday, the eight El Cajon hotels that accept county vouchers are among 18 in the program, with four in the city of San Diego, two in Chula Vista, two in Escondido, one in Santee and one in Vista.
“To say that the county is secretly using El Cajon as a dumping ground is misinformed,” said Anderson, whose district includes El Cajon. “In the future, I believe our shared constituents would be better served if we worked together, rather than through press conferences.”
