Could Darth Vader's lava world in 'Rogue One' really exist?
Back in 2004, an exoplanet was spotted around 41 light-years from Earth. At the time, was declared to be the very first “super-Earth” – a world that is more massive than our own pale blue dot, but not quite as sizeable as Neptune.
Consequently, half of its surface is unfathomably hot. Thermal simulations show that the dayside bakes in temperatures exceeding 2,500°C , higher than the melting point of any rock known to science. This side would remain completely molten, an ocean of lava that would never freeze over. The fact that Director Krennic appears to be able to do this suggests that it might be a very different lava world to 55 Cancri e. Perhaps it would be more like Io, the volcanic hellscape moon orbiting Jupiter.
