While the two staples of New York City are usually tied in price, recent events have caused pizza to rise sharply in cost compared to the city's subway system.
The average cost of a slice of pizza across all of the city's boroughs currently sits at $3.14, according to pizza ordering app Slice. This puts the price well above the cost of a single swipe into the city's subway system, which is $2.75.
The cost of a single swipe into New York City's subway system has traditionally been about the same cost as a slice of pizza. While the cost of the two items is not directly connected, they have tended to remain consistent since the 1960s. It's often been noted that when the price of one rises, the other is soon to follow suit.
