Coronado’s Jr. Lifeguard summer programs have been cancelled due to contaminated ocean water.
Programs in Ocean Beach and other parts of San Diego County are still on as scheduled, but this is just the latest blow to our southern beach communities. The California State Games, which puts on the programs, sent out the following email to enrolled participants: Due to possible water quality issues, the Coronado permit has been cancelled. We tried to secure another location, and although several beaches were willing to review the possibility, they declined due to a lack of time for them to prepare. Therefore, we have to cancel Jr. Lifeguards this year. We are extremely disappointed since we have not been able to hold the Jr. Lifeguards competition in several years. We will be issuing refunds this week.
