Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and her daughter, Jennifer, last year sold their condominium in the South Side’s Kenwood neighborhood for $240,000 — one year after paying $500,000 for a four-bedroom condominium two blocks away in the nearby Hyde Park neighborhood. For several years, Preckwinkle lived in and was registered to vote in the Kenwood condo, which is in a three-story, vintage building on South Woodlawn Avenue that was built in the late 1920s and that is located just one block east of former President Barack Obama’s mansion. Preckwinkle, her then-husband, Zeus Preckwinkle, and her daughter bought the condo together in 2013 for just $72,500.

Preckwinkle and her daughter had paid $500,000 in February 2020 for a 2,500-square-foot duplex condo unit in a newer three-story building in Hyde Park — just two blocks southeast of the place they sold. The condo they now own is in a building that was constructed in 2005. The unit has three bathrooms, high ceilings, an open concept kitchen, one garage parking space and a roof deck patio and pergola atop the garage. However, one thing’s for sure: Preckwinkle’s property taxes are higher now.
