Protecting oneself from scammers is what Consumer Protection Week is all about. The State of Alaska warns residents to be aware of when you should and should not give out your personal information over the phone.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - It’s Consumer Protection Week, and the state of Alaska is advising that residents exercise caution when giving out information over the phone.

In regards to scammers asking for personal information quickly, Taylor says, “No government agency is going to ask you to run to your bank that morning.” Computer automated calls can be useful if they are from one’s pharmacy, airline regarding a flight delay, or an appointment reminder.
