That, in fact, happened for Mantz in his final competition of 2022, when he won the Manchester Road Race, covering the 4.748 miles in 21:04 to break a 4-year-old record. Combined with his Chicago result, he couldn’t be coming to Texas riding more momentum, or brimming with more confidence.
