A teenager died swimming in a Connecticut Saturday as he tried to escape a scorching heatwave in the region, officials said.
The 16-year-old boy was pulled from Uncas Pond in Lyme after authorities responded to a report of a missing swimmer around 4:30 p.m., officialsAccording to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the unidentified teen was swimming in the pond with friends but went under and never resurfaced.
Dive teams from from local agencies and Connecticut State Police as well as DEEP Environmental Conservation Police worked to recover the boy. He was brought to the shoreline and given CPR before he was transported to Shoreline Clinic in Westbrook where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
