Two advocacy groups ask the Federal Election Commission to investigate and potentially sanction U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz after more than $630,000 in advertising...
The Federal Election Commission was asked to examine potential legal violations after $630,000 went to a pro-Cruz operation.
Truth and Courage does not provide contact information on its website, which promotes Cruz and attacks his opponent in the November election, U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, D-Dallas. Inquiries sent to an email address included with the PAC’s campaign finance filings have gone unanswered. The Cruz campaign has previously characterized attention to the podcast’s financial arrangements as “lazy attacks” by news outlets and Democrats trying to shut down the podcast in an election year.
In the complaint, the groups ask the FEC to investigate and “seek appropriate sanctions for any and all violations, including civil penalties sufficient to deter future violations, injunctive relief to remedy these violations and prohibit any and all future violations,” and any additional remedies that would ensure compliance with the law.
“We were never informed that media spend was going directly to a super PAC and have instructed iHeart to remove our messages from any podcasts that direct advertising revenue to campaigns, PACs or political parties,” Parman said.
