Commercial Metals Co. plans to build a new steelmaking micro mill to serve the East Coast and Midwest regions.Irving-based Commercial Metals Co. is considering several sites for a new steelmaking micro mill to mainly serve the East Coast and Midwest regions where infrastructure spending is projected to boom.

Construction of the mill is expected to take two years once the site is selected, incentives are negotiated with state and local officials and regulatory approvals are obtained, according to the company. The Biden administration’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan, signed into law in November, is expected to create a flurry of construction activity over the next five years. It includes $550 billion to rebuild roads and bridges and other infrastructure.
