ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Rick Mercer said he has realized, over the years, how lucky he was to have grown up in Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove.
Each inductee gets a star, similar to what is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, although the"stars" on Canada's Walk of Fame are maple leaves and it is in Toronto. In 2017, CEO Jeffery Latimer said, they decided to take things a step further with Canada's Walk of Fame Hometown Stars, which is why Mercer was honoured in Outer Cove on Friday, May 3.
But what he is best known for is his time as a social and political commentator on"The Rick Mercer Report." Mercer said he also attributes Newfoundland and the greats that came before him for shaping his comedic style and storytelling abilities."I had these shining examples of how it was done and how to do it right. I also knew it was possible to do it here because of those before me."Mercer said that even as a theatre and drama club kid, he never thought his life would take the trajectory it did. He just wanted to have work and be in a comedy troupe.
