Seattle trip was fruitless. Wave's defense fared well behind Sheridan, Girma, Westphal, Riehl and McGrady.
But the Wave, to their credit, seemed bummed by their performance Sunday in Seattle.
“Our defense did play really well and really solid,” midfielder Kristen McNabb said, “but I think, back to front, we can do a better job of connecting between the lines and finding meaningful attacks.” Then came the artistic goal: Rose Lavelle, a 2019 World Cup winner with Team USA, headed Sofia Huerta’s curving free kick past Kailen Sheridan, an unstoppable high-spin shot from 10 yards.“But,” she added, “it’s fine margins. It’s just disappointing to concede, especially from a set piece.”
OL Reign, who announced they’ll get 2014 NWSL MVP Kim Little on loan from Arsenal, seem headed to an eighth consecutive winning season. In the two preseason matches between the teams, only Morgan scored for the Wave. A questionable hand-ball foul created one of those two goals.
