After a weather delay of over two hours, the Crew fell to Inter Miami after allowing the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute.
A hot, humid evening in south Florida often means thunderstorms are on the way, and the Columbus Crew were on the receiving end of that Tuesday evening in Fort Lauderdale.at DRV PNK Stadium. But after a delay of over two hours, the second half resumed at 11:35 p.m.
Miami relinquished the lead once in the first half, but they didn't make the same mistake again after Higuain's go-ahead goal. The home side went on to win 2-1, bringing Miami up to eighth in the Eastern Conference with 39 points and leaving the Crew clinging to seventh place at 41 points. Outside of a few rapid counter-attacks for Miami, though, the Crew had the majority of the possession in the first half — 62% to Miami's 38%, per FotMob. They capitalized on that possession in the 41st minute, as right back Steven Moreira sent a cross in to striker Cucho Hernandez in the box.
When the game resumed, after the lengthy delay, occasional flashes of lightning still lit up the sky above the stadium. It took almost 40 minutes for Higuain to break through in what almost felt like a new game, and the Crew seemed to find a bit of life after falling behind.
